PowerBlock Classic Adjustable 5 to 45-Pounds per Dumbbell Set Reviews
The Comparisonsbr /br /I wanted to start the P90X program and needed a set of dumbbells that wouldn't clutter my small apartment living room. Prior to purchasing the PowerBlock Classic, I read many reviews on Amazon.com for other adjustable dumbbells as well as this one. I even went to sport stores (Sports Authority and Sport Chalet) to try their display models. Sports Authority carried the Select Tech (50lb adjustable one) and the Gold's Gym set. Both were problematic. I instantly knew the Select Tech dumbbells from Bowflex were poor quality when I picked it up. Only one of the dumbbells I could pick up because the other was broken! I've used the Bowflex 90lb version my brother purchased and those are much better quality and work fantastically except with the huge setback of SIZE. They're enormous and cumbersome to lift, often clunking together. The Gold's Gym dumbbells involved a troublesome slider pin that I couldn't get used to. I came across a few other similar dumbbells with this pin mechanism and most of the pins got "stuck". Finally, I came to the PowerBlock Classic.br /br /The Reviewbr /br /The PowerBlock Classic was simple, odd-looking, but excellent. I was scared the magnet/pin locking mechanism for these dumbbells were weak or fragile (it really doesn't look like it would hold) but boy is it sturdy! For the other reviewers who warn of the dangers of misplaced pins, I say that it's not a problem! The pin SNAPS into place so you KNOW that the pin has been properly put in. Sure, the pin can get awkwardly stuck into the other slots if misplaced but as soon as you try to "snap" in the pin, you'll know you have it in the wrong slot immediately and you can correct for this. I have been using these dumbbells in intensive moves and slow moves and at all sorts of angles with no worries of a pin sliding out. These feel very solid with no rattling whatsoever. Also, I love that the size of these blocks are relatively the size of your standard gym dumbbells in terms of length so that the dumbbells do not clunk together during a bicep curl. I also love how fast and smooth switching plates can be with these because unlike the Bowflex SelectTech and some other dumbbells, you have to "fit" the plates into the other plates. (Just imagine that the underscores are empty spots for a plate and the | are plates. |_||--||_| With the SelectTech you have to match the plates back into it's exact spot which takes a fairly steady hand to do quickly. This is a slight nuance that I get annoyed of but may not be a problem for you.) With the PowerBlock you simply stick the whole thing into the middle of the remaining plates which makes it very simple and quick for swapping weights. The PowerBlock dumbbells are very comfortable to use with a soft grip so you don't need gloves. The extra handles I don't really use but they could come in handy. You can even use these dumbbells as push-up stands since they're that sturdy. br /br /Conclusionbr /br /I bought these from Sport Chalet for 0+tax which came out to something like 0 so that I didn't have to pay for a huge shipping fee. I HIGHLY recommend that you get these if you want a set of space-saving adjustable dumbbells. I would say these are the best on the market in agreement to another reviewer.

Great for p90x - Headshrinker - United States
Using with P90x and these are perfect. Right amount of weight for reasonably strong and athletic 43 year old (180 lbs). Allows quick changes. Am getting some Platemates so that smaller 2.5 lb increments are possible. I know there are newer PowerBlocks that allow 2.5 lb changes but you have to open the handles and change cylinders out - adding Platemates has to be quicker, and P90X really has you changing weights pretty rapidly - I'd rather not hit pause during the workout.
